Welcome to the website of the Disability Alliance at VT.

The Disability Alliance at VT is a Registered Student Organization which works alongside a Faculty/Staff Disability Caucus. This is a space for disabled Virginia Tech community members and their allies to come together and engage in community building, mutual support, and disability activism.

We lift our slogan of “Nothing About Us Without Us” from disability rights history. We want disabled voices to be heard and represented on campus. We hope to address cultural prejudices and dismantle systemic barriers to full participation in university life.

As a cross-disability organization, we celebrate the diversity of disability experiences. We welcome those with mental illnesses, developmental, intellectual, and learning disabilities, chronic illnesses, and/or other hidden disabilities. We acknowledge the validity of both self and professional forms of diagnoses, and we won’t ask you to prove your identities. We hope to create a diverse group which honors the varied and multiple identities disabled people and their allies may hold.

SPRING 2020:

For Spring 2020, our regularly scheduled meetings are every-other Tuesday in Graduate Life Center, Room A, Noon-1pm. January 28, February 11, February 25, March 17, March 31, April 14, April 28, May 12. We have a googlegroup/listserv (disability-g@vt.edu), Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/disabilityalliancevt/), and a Twitter presence (@DAatVT).
